I am a consultant in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care Medicine at the University Hospitals of the North Midlands and also within the Royal Navy.
My research interests include the application of the anaesthetic gas Xenon in the management of brain injury and as an analgesic agent with clinical feasibility studies expected in the near future. In collaboration with the University of Warwick and the Defence Science and Technology Laboratories, I am involved in several in-silico toxic lung injury and complex haemorrhagic injury modelling projects.
With a view to developing fully autonomous, AI controlled mechanical ventilation, I am part of an international collaboration of clinicians and AI specialist bioengineers working steadily towards this goal.
With Bioengineering colleagues closer to home, and with support from the NSMI, I am part of an exciting study examining the potential value of shear wave elastography ultrasound to measure pressure within the brain non-invasively.
