About the building
Opened in 1965 after a public appeal raised £100,000, the Wade Conference Centre was the first purpose-built postgraduate centre for medical and dental education and research in Britain, and set a pattern later followed by other regions across the UK. Named for Sir George Wade in recognition of his leadership in getting it built, it still sits at the heart of the Foundation today.

The Centre operates as a registered charity in its own right: every pound of surplus from room hire is used to fund medical research and education in accordance with the terms of our founding trust, not for private profit.
Recent changes
The Centre has recently refreshed its seminar rooms and two tiered lecture theatres, upgraded its AV and accessibility, and widened its calendar beyond medical education to weddings, functions, training days and community events, all while keeping the building not-for-profit and true to its original purpose.
